Data from comperator farms are useful in preparation of talks, conduct of field trials and for staying abreast of conditions in the field. Extensive data are stored at the various dairy records processing centers for diary farms enrolled in the Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) program. many of the centers have made on-line access available to extension specialists for use in educational programs. Data which can be downloaded include: milk production, reproductive performance, and feed conversion for individual cows; herd statistics for the last 48 months; county and state averages for the last complete year and month. This paper illustrates how this system works using access provided by dairy records processing center at raleigh, NC. Specific examples demonstrate some of the scope and variety of possible uses. |
