Information management on dairy farms with 250 cows or more is a significant chore. One computer program to assist in cow and herd management is PC-DHI. This software package has been developed by the dairy records processing center at raleigh for use by herds not served by traditional DHIA programs. The program stores and manages data for individual cows including some 358 unique data fields. Number of cows per herd is unlimited. Type of information includes: identity, production, reproduction, cow health, treatment, young stock and some user-defined record fields. The program provides for interface with milk analysis laboratories and genetic data on herd sires available through artificial insemination. For utilization of all features, a 80.386 processor, VGA graphics and aproximately 4 megabytes of disk space are required. |
