Laboratory studies were conducted with 29 sorghum varieties to study the relationships between resistance to Sitophilus oryzae (L.), measured by Dobie's susceptibility index (Sl), and grain nutrient content, in a no-choice test varieties differed significantly with respect to the Sl and to grain weight loss, and there were significant positive correlations between these two parameters. Almost 7-5 times more grain weight loss was recorded for the most susceptible variety (AGROMEN 8050) compared with the least susceptible variety (CMSXS 376). Relationships between the Sl and nitrogen, carbohydrate content or adult weight were not significant. |
