Profit projection has been integrated with other programs such as TAURUS that formulate or evaluate rations and assess the management strategiesmost likely to maximize profit. It combines the biological performance with economic data of feeding growing and finishing cattle. Up to five different phases of feeding can be accommodated by the program. It utilizes the user's choice of one of six feed intake equations and one of three growth models to predict performance. The empirical intake equations provide relatively widely varying patterns and quantities of dry matter intake. Users of profit projection are advised to use the equation developed under conditions most like their own. The growth models are less variable, and the later they were developed, the more inputs required and outputs presented. One model provides estimates of body composition, useful in estimating quality and yield grade. |
