Electrical conductivity is highly desirable for employing thermoplastic rubbers-TR - in applications such as paints for corrosion protection and adhesives for conductive materials. We have succeeded in producing, from solution, conducting elastomeric blends of a TR, poly(styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene) triblock copolymer, and polyaniline. Flexible, free-standing lustrous films obtained by casting polyaniline doped with camphor sulfonic acid were studied by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, conductivity measurements, cyclic voltammetry, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, X-rays diffraction and electron scanning microscopy. Remarkably, they posses low percolation threshold reaching electrical conductivities up to 5S/cm for blends containing only 2.5% of the conducting polymer. The thermal analysis demonstrated that these blends exhibit no weigh loss up to temperatures as high as 250 Celsius degrees. Also, they present electrochemical activity similar to polyaniline. |
