The entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana (Hyphomycetes) and Zoophthora ( = Erynia) radicans (Zygomycetes) are under investigation at the National Rice and Bean Research Center (CNPAF) to determine their value as control agents for pest insects in bean and cowpea agroecosystems in Brazil. An important, but poorly documented, consideration for their use in pest control is the effect of entomopathogenic fungi on beneficial, nontarget species, particularly predators important in natural control of pests. |
