In order to get Bacillus thuringiensis biopesticide, it was studied the viability of using semi solid fermentation (solid state fermentation-SSF) technique. In a static process under controlled temperature and flascks as fermentation vessels, they were studied different solid substrates, mainly, by-products from agroindustry. The testing substrates were: solid residue from pulp and paper industry-PPR, fermented malt residue from beer industry-FMR , rice residue-RR, slaugther house meal-SHR, meal from cookies/bakery industry-CBR,. These residues were used to support growth of Btk - Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki or Bti- Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, entomopathogens that are effective against crop pest insects - Lepidoptera or mosquitoes - Diptera. The product obtained was bioassayed against insect-tests. The best bioassay results were obtained using PPR as growth substrate of Btk, and RR for Bti. A tentative formulation is being studied to test in the field the product obtained, by SSF. In the case of Bti, it needs to be applied in a form that permits its flotation over water ponds or river, for a relatively long period, in such a way that it will be available to be fed by the mosquitoes larvae. Lab results are now being transfered at field scale. |
