Abstract : The concentrations and fatty acid composition of plasma lipids were studied in ewes during the last 3 days before parturition, on the day of parturition, and at 100 and 180 days after parturition. Values were obtained from wethers also. The concentration of unesterified fatty acids increased during the last 3 days before parturition. On the day of parturition, this fraction accounted for 34% of the total plasma fatty acids compared with values of 11 and 10% on the 100th and 180th days and with 8% for wethers. The greatest concentration of plasma phospholipids was on the 100th day after parturition. On the 3 days before parturition and on the day of parturition, oleic acid in the plasma triglycerides and unesterified fatty acids and linoleic acid in the plasma phospholipids and cholesteryl esters were more than the corresponding values 100 and 180 days after parturition. |
