The genetic progress achieved across the scheme was not as expected. Gain in direct breeding value for lamb live weight was only found in the nucleus suggesting that the flow of genes from the nucleus to member flocks was limited. There is a need to follow a common selection policy if rates of genetic gain are to be enhanced in member flocks in such schemes. |
