Microbial cells isolated from different sites differ in chemical composition resulting in different calculated amounts of microbial-N flowing to post-ruminal sites. The simultaneous use of different microbial markers markedly alters the magnitude of estimates of both microbial growth and efficiency. This study clearly illustrates the potential confounding effects of isolating bacteria from different sources and of different types of microbial markers on the calculated values of microbial growth. |
