Resumo: O desempenho do cordeiro é iniciado ainda na vida fetal e sofre influência do estado fisiológico da ovelha, como aspecto nutricional e número de fetos por gestação. A falta de conhecimento sobre os aspectos nutricionais do rebanho brasileiro leva os produtores a incorrerem em falhas no manejo perinatal das ovelhas que geram perdas econômicas do sistema. O trabalho, realizado no Laboratório de Calorimetria e Metabolismo Animal da EV/UFMG, usou 27 ovelhas Santa Inês durante a gestação, estação de parição e cria de seus 35 cordeiros até 120 dias de idade. Avaliou-se ganho de peso, altura de cernelha, altura de ílio, comprimento de corpo e circunferência torácica e suas interações com o tipo de gestação das ovelhas e com o manejo nutricional das mesmas durante o terço final da gestação. Os resultados observados demonstraram a superioridade de cordeiros oriundos de partos simples cujas mães não sofreram restrição alimentar no terço final de gestação em relação aos demais. Abstract: The development of the lamb is initiated still in the fetal life and suffers influence from the physiological state of the sheep, as nutricional aspect and number of embryos for gestation. The lack of knowledge on the nutricional aspects of the Brazilian flock takes the producers to incur into imperfections in the perinatal handling of the sheep that generate economic losses of the system. The present work was carried through in the Laboratory of Calorimetry and Animal Metabolism at EV/UFMG and followed 27 Santa Ines ewes during the pregnancy, lambing period and initial life of its 35 lambs until the age of 120 days. They had been evaluated body weight, withers height, rump height, body length and thoracic circumference and its correlations with the type of gestation of the sheep (simple or double) and with the nutricional handling of the same ones during the final stage of the pregnancy (restriction of 15% of the predicted protein and energy levels). The observed results demonstrated the superiority of deriving lambs of simple births whose mothers had not suffered alimentary restriction in the final stage of pregnancy in relation to the others.
