Abstract: To study the effect of processing of wheat straw and agroindustrial-byproducts-based complete feeds, 3 experimental diets were formulated: (i) conventional ratio containing concentrate mixture at 200 g/day per animal and ad lib. urea-molasses-enriched wheat straw, (ii) complete mash feed and (iii) complete pelleted feed. They were fed to 3 Deccani adult rams in a 3 .times. 3 latin-square design. The dry-matter intake was more (P < 0.05) in the complete feeds than in the conventional ration. Digestibility coefficients among the rations were significantly different for dry matter and organic matter (P < 0.05), ether extract, crude protein and nitrogen-free extract (P < 0.01). Significantly higher positive balance of nitrogen, phosphorus (P < 0.01) and calcium (P < 0.05) were noticed in the animal fed complete feeds. Significantly higher concentrations (P < 0.01) of all nitrogen fractions, total volatile fatty acids and lower pH values were observed in the rumen fluid of sheep fed on complete feeds. these findings indicated that complete feeds either in mash or pellet form could be formulated and processed by utilizing locally available crop residues, agroindustrial byproducts and other animal wastes.
