Sweat collected for 6 h from the neck and mid-side region of 4 native Nali and 4 exotic Corriedale sheep was studied for quantity, pH, Na, K, chloride, total N and urea. The sweat secretion was .apprx. 3 times more in Nali sheep than in the Corriedales. A high alkaline sweat of Nali sheep rich in K, Na and urea probably offered a favorable environment for the growth of the chromogenic bacteria responsible for canary coloration. The sweat of Corriedale was acidic (pH 6.29). The total 6 h nitrogenous excretion through sweat did not differ significantly in both breeds. |
