Dissection and angiographic observations were made on 20 adult goat heads to determine the course of the arteries of the brain. The brain derived arterial blood from the rete mirabile epidurale rostrale. The rete of either side were rejoined together at their caudal end by transverse vessels but remained free rostrally. The rami rostrales and ramus caudalis ad rete mirabile epidurale rostrale contributed a major share of blood to the rete. A. [artery] rete mirabile epidurale caudale was not observed. The arteria cerebri, after piercing through the diaphragma sellae, divided into a rostral and a caudal segment to establish a funnel-shaped circulus arteriosus below the brain base. The rostral segment gave off a. profunda cerebri, a. choroidea rostralis, a. cerebri media and a. cerebri rostralis in succession as it proceeded rostrad to join its counterpart and then finally continued as a. ethmoidea interna. From the caudal segment emanated a. cerebri caudalis, a. tectalis, a. cerebelli rostralis. The a. basilaris continued caudally from the circle and gave rise to rami ad pontem, a. cerebelli caudalis and rami medullaris. |
