The effect of year, season and sire on semen volume and percentages of live sperm were ststistically significant (P < 0.01). The season and year had significant effect (P < 0.01) on sperm concentration with coefficient of determination as 9.74 and 8.69%, respectively. Though the sire effect was not significant statistically, its contribution to the total variability was 19.5%, which is considerable. Season effected motility significantly. The repeatability estimates for volume, concentration of sperm, motility and percent live sperms were 0.16 .+-. 0.05, 0.08 .+-. 0.04, -0.01 .+-. 0.02 and 0.54 .+-. 0.08, respectively. The sire X season interactions were non-significant. The percent live sperms may have moderately high additive genetic variance and could be used to improve male fertility. |
