Abstract: Short notice given only substantially as follows: The aim of the study was to maintain a prepubertal endocrine state in Mongolian Cashmere young bucks by immunisation against gonadotrophin receptors. Maintaining a prepubertal stage in young bucks appears to be highly necessary for cashmere goats breeders in Mongolia, as selection for the future best male cashmere producers cannot be done before three years of age, which renders early castration impossible. Experiment showed that antireceptor antibodies were indeed obtained in prepubertal bucks and titers maintained with booster injections at 6 week intervals. With some vaccine combinations, low titers (prepubertal) of testosterone were maintained as long as antireceptor antibodies were present in animal sera. We found that prepubertal MAC bucks displayed five times higher circulating levels of testosterone than Saanen. The effects of lowering testosterone on male behavior and on total cashmere production per animal are currently under evaluation. |
