Abstract: The goat is numerically a more important species of livestock in the developing countries especially in Asia and Africa. In addition to their contribution to the subsistence of smallholders and landless poor, they provide marketable commodities, such as meat, milk, skins, fibre and manure. Goats provide 2,5 milion metric tonnes of meat, 1,8 milion metric tonnes of milk and 0,48 metric tonnes of fresh skins. 90% of the meat and 70% of the total milk from goat is produced in Asia and Africa.
