This PhD thesis is part of an effort aiming to better understand and to control the tomato begomovírus epidemics imn Brazil. A first important step to achieve is the identification of the viruses involved in the disease epidemics and their further characterizantion at both molecular and biological levels. This is essential to direct breending programs aiming to develop resistant cultivars. A better understanding of the components involvend in the host-virus interation may help to design new strategiesthat will contribute to the development of more effective integrated control management.
In chapter 2 an investigation was conducted to establish the identity and genetic diversity of begomoviruses associated with didease outbreaks in tomato fields throughourt Brazil. |
