It cab be estimated that in Australia at least 1 in 5 of all lambs born, dies soon after birth. Many die because in could weather they are unable to maintain body temperature during drying of the coat (Alexander & McCance, 1958); their energy reserves or the rate of energy utilization thus appear inadequate. Attention has therefore been focussed on the magnitude and nature of energy reserves and on the rate of depletion under various circumstances. Detailed reports of the wook summarized below have been prepared for publication and will be present elsewhere. |
