The New Zealand export and local consumption gradins systems for lamb and mutton carcasses are described in relaiton to the objectives of a grading system. Export grading results on 1,272 lamb carcasses have been used to illustrate objectively the differences between grades in the 1965-6 and 1966-7 season prior to amalgamaiton of the two North Island Prime grades. The effectiveness of the lamb export grading system is ducussion and the introduction of a new Prime grade containig the fatter carcasses is suggested. |
