Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum MATON) is a monocut valued for its seeds, which are used as a spice, carminative, flavouring agent and aromatic stimulant. It is an importante plantation crop earning a sizable foreign exchange for India. Cardamon is conventionale propagated either by seeds or rhizomes. Seed raised plants show wide variation. Multiplication of elites is achieved by the use of rhizomes. This method, however, is unsatisfactory for planting largge areas as the number of rhizomes obtainable is limited. |
