Higard (16) first pointed out in a systematic way a definite relationship between native vegetation and soil types in north America. While his observations have been confirmed generally by later workers, the relation between soil types and the health of animals grazing thereon has not been defined so clearly. this has been due partly to a lack of refinement in chemical methods and partly to the fact that animals range more widely in their search for food nutrients than is possible with individual plants. |
