Soil P transformations during pedogenesis attracted the attention of several early workers (6,8). In more recent studies, using rather more sophisticated procedures (3,20), the transformation of apatite to organic P and secondary forms of inorganic P have been investigated. Several studies have shown that total P increases with a decrease in particle size (9,13,19). It also appears that a fairly high proportion of the P in sand fractions of soils is of primary origin, whereas the P in clay fractions is largely of secondary origin (1,12,19), - the result of accumulations of both organic and inorganic P. |
