Over the past three decades a wide variety of new and powerfull chemical tools have come into the hands of applied entomologists. The benefits that these chemicals have brought to marking stand as a remarkable testimonial to technological advancement in terms of lives saved, increased food production, and economic gain. However, the pesticide blessing has not been an unmixed one. Throught the widespread and sometimes indiscriminate use of pesticides a number of serious problems have arisen, including air, water, and soil pollution, increased numbers of pests, generally premature resistance of many pest arthropods to pesticides, and disruption of ecological systems (6, 42, 57, 79, 84). |
