The term "intercropping" has been used in connexion with quite distinct systems of growing two or more crops together at the same time. The practice of growing several crops together in a random admixture is common troughout Africa. The system of growing crops in alternate rows has been evolved as a compromise between the time-honoured customs of the African cultivator and the modern practice of planting in pure stands. |
