The aim was to identify the effect of the genotype-environment interaction (GEI) for test-day milk yield (TMDY) in Girolando cows. Data were a total of 614,580 observations from 87,395 first-lactation cows between 2000 and 2014. The animal model (MA) and reaction standard hierarchical models were adjusted with homogeneous and heterogeneous variances in one step (MMRA1p-T-Ho and MMRA1p-T-He, respectively) and two steps (MMNR2pT-Ho and MMNR2p-T-He, respectively), both with Student?s t-distribution. These different models were compared using three goodness-of-fit criteria: deviance information criterion (DIC), deviance based on the Conditional Predictive Ordinate (CPO), and deviance based on the Bayes factors (BF). The MMRA1p-T-Ho, MMNR2p-T-Ho, and MMNR2p-T-He models presented the lowest values for the DIC (75,662.12), CPO (76,276.89), and BF (71,950.11), respectively, indicating good quality-of-fit. Estimates of mean posterior heritability were low to high (0.06 to 0.84) for TMDY. The genetic correlations along the environmental gradient for TDMY showed low to high values (-0.40 to 1.00). The results indicated a presence of GEI Girolando animals, suggesting the possibility of its inclusion in genetic evaluations performed in Brazil. |
