Dry bean (Phaseolus vulgarisL.) is an important legume crop and leading source of dietary protein worldwide. Its yield is quite low in developing as well as developed countries. Both biotic and abiotic constraints are responsible for this low yield. Low soil fertility is one of the most important yield-limiting factors in most of the bean-producing regions. The objective of this review article is to discuss in detail sustainable nutrient management practices to improve dry bean production. Appropriate management practices to improve soil fertility, including liming are discussed, and are supported by recent experimental results. A large number of references are also cited to give the topic an international dimension. |
