Abstract: According to geographical location and different agronomic types, mainly the goats are distributed in the hilly regions surrounding the basin area and southwest part of Sichuan Province. Goat population went up to 9.4 million head in 1996. Goat industry has become a pillar one in developing rural economy. According to statistics, from 1993 to 1996 the province created 3,5 billions of RMB yuan by marketing 30 million goats. Scientific research and technical expanding is strengthened and higher reward is achieved. Exotic breeds have been used to crossbreed the natives and already brought out some new fine breeds more suitable to the natural conditions in different regions, considerably upgrading the performance of various native breeds. Farmers awareness to science and technology is enhanced and feeding and managemnt skill level is improved. Properly intensive and pen-raising may be a way to get more returns. Some organizations and enerprises expect goat industry has a good prospect, and agree to invest in building up factories and farms. There is a booming goat market and the consuming of goat products presents a big increase. Main countermeasures against limiting factors that influence the development for goat industry and proposals are: facing challenge, making the situation clear ; making great efforts to develop and utilize fine breed ressources, speeding up crossbreeding technlogy and striving to enhance performance; collecting funds through various channels, strengthening applied scientific research, taking effective measures to expand advances production skills and raising science technic level in goat industry and lastly key projects, spurring products processing and circulation, developing specialized and scaled goat raising headed by goat farm.
