Here, we propose a mechanochemical route to manage the disposal of asbestos fbers material from raw chrysotile and asbestos cement, using it as a nutrient source for agriculture. The mechanochemical process, using citric acid as a reactant, led to the fbers? disruption. The constant mixing, the reactants? friction, and the ion migration enabled the formation of calcium/magnesium citrates. Through soil incubation and enzymatic profle analyses, we showed the benefcial efect of these products as readily available carbon to stimulate endogenous microbiota, releasing Ca2+/Mg2+ to correct acid soil pH. The results evidence the potential of these citrates to promote an acidic bufer to the soil and, after their microbiological decomposition, their equivalent efect to commercial limestone for soil pH correction. |
