O trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a produção de forragem de diferentes genótipos de trevo vermelho na região da Campanha do Rio Grande do Sul. O experimento foi conduzido na Embrapa Pecuária Sul, em Bagé, RS. Foram avaliados cinco diferentes genótipos, sendo três populações selecionadas (Trigolândia, Bagé e Hulha Negra), comparadas com uma cultivar estrangeira (Quiniqueli) e uma população comercial sem origem definida (Ijuí), utilizadas como testemunhas. O experimento foi instalado no dia 28 de maio de 2010. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos completamente casualizados. Foram avaliadas a produção de matéria seca total e de folhas através de três cortes ao longo do experimento. Em ambas variáveis a análise estatística não apresentou interação significativa entre tratamentos e cortes (genótipos x tempo). Com relação a produção de matéria seca total, a cultivar Quiniqueli comportou-se como um dos genótipos mais produtivos, junto com a população Hulha Negra e o tratamento Ijuí, ambos não se diferenciando significativamente. Já as populações Trigolândia e Bagé mostraram-se menos produtivas, diferindo significativamente da cultivar Quiniqueli. Quanto a variável produção de matéria seca de folhas, a cultivar Quiniqueli também teve destaque, diferindo significativamente dos demais genótipos. Por sua vez, os tratamentos Ijuí, Hulha Negra e Trigolândia apresentaram uma produção de matéria seca de folhas intermediária, não se diferindo entre si, enquanto a população Bagé apresentou a menor produção. Pode concluir que a cultivar Quiniqueli demonstrou boa adaptação à região. Por outro lado, apesar de ter apresentado produção de matéria seca de folhas inferior à cultivar Quiniqueli, a população Hulha Negra apresentou produção de matéria seca total similar a essa, o que demonstra seu potencial para ser lançada como futura cultivar, ampliando a disponibilidade de sementes com origem genética definida aos produtores da região.
