The experiment was located in a commercial grove in Okeechobee, FL, with an Adamsville soil. Municipal solid waste (MSW) compost (256 mt.ha) was surface applied, disced incorporated (10cm depth), or untreated (control) within the tree canopy area of 42-year-old `Pope'orange trees. Concentrations of N, Ca, Mg, K, P, Zn, Cu, and Mn in five-month-old leaves were not significantly different among treatments. Surface soilC, N, K, Fe, Na, and Cl contents in the disced plots were not significantly different among treatments. Fruit quality characteristics (percent juice, degrees brix, acid and solids/box) and total yield (boxes/ha) were not significantly different among treatments. Howeber, disced plots resulted in a higher percentage of larger sized fruit than the control. |
