Young nucellar seedlings of several hybrids of Citrus x Poncirus and a few parent-type clones were tested for resistance to Phytophthora parasitica and P. citrophthira, separately, in the greenhouse. Seedlings were grown in small cylinders in silica sand. When the plants were about 3 months old, their intact root systems were allower to grow for 12 to 17 days more. The roots were then treated with 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium choride, to indicate the proportion of injured tissue. There was a wide range of injury among the selection, but several hybrids of C. sinesis 'Ruby' x P. trifoliata appeared to be moderately resistant to one or both fungi. |
