This paper gives prelim nary phenological information on macrophytes of Naini Tal lake, a warm menomictic and highly eutrophic water body located at 1937 m elevation in Kumaun Himalaya. The macrophyte vegetation of Naini Tal lake consisted of two emergent (Polygonum glabrum Wild and P. hydropiper Linn.), one rooted floating leaved (Polygonum amphibium Linn.) and three submergent species (Potamogeton pectinatus Linn., P. crispus Linn. and Hydrilla verticillata casp.). Phenological events of these macrophytes were observed for two years (March 1978 to February 1980). Formation and germination of propagating organs: In this lake stem tubers of P. pectinatus could be collected throughout the year. Kollman & Wali (1976), reported that the tubers of P. pectinatus were formed from late July to early September, when growth was culminating in a temperate lake. |
