Application of genomic selection (GS) in the breeding industry depends, among other factors, on the price of genotyping. To reduce the cost of GS, imputation approaches have been used. Imputation strategies and GS have been comprehensively studied in several taurine dairy and beef populations but limited information is available on indicine populations. Factors that affect the efficiency of imputation and GS such as population structure, linkage disequilibrium between syntenic markers and marker density differ between indicine and taurine breeds. Hence, the need to investigate effectiveness of genotype imputation and GS in indicine breeds. The objective of the thesis was to investigate strategies to maximize genotype imputation and accuracy of genomic predictions in two (Nelore - beef cattle and Gyr - dairy cattle) indicine cattle populations of Brazil. |
