The growth performance of male Black Bengal goats, housed in a deep litter system and provided with 1.44, 2.15 and 4.32 msuperscript 2 floor space each, was studied for 12 weeks. The goats were given concentrates 200 g/day plus cut para grass (Brachiaria mutica) ad libitum. Growth and feed conversion efficiency were recorded at 14-day intervals, together with the ambient temperature. In the animal husbandry section through goat is most profitable enterprise, development of goatary on a scientific basis for better production is halted by number of constraints i.e. nonavaibility of grazing land due to industrialization and acute population pressure, soil erosion due to grazing, inadequacy in the supply of feed, kid mortality due to lack of proper management etc. An effort was made to study the productive performance of goat on deep litter system of management under complete confinement. |
