Brazilian and international pineapple markets, as well as the insertion of Brazil into the international pineapple trade are the main topics addressed in this paper. The geographic distribution of Brazilian production for the few pineapple cultivars used are shown, pointing out the predominance of cultivar ?Pérola? in the Northeast Region. The ten most important pineapple producing states are mentioned, with emphasis on the States of Pará and Paraíba that together were responsible for 42% of the Brazilian production in 2006. The pineapple fruit volumes sold in the largest trading center in Brazil (Ceagesp) is presented, reporting the predominance of ?Pérola? from the year 2000. The trend of the average price of pineapple fruits in the most important trade centers in Brazil is discussed. Based on price seasonality and on pineapple harvest periods, the period from January to May is identified as the market window in which prices in Brazil are above annual average, but with trends for decreasing differences and narrowing of that window. The reason for that is the increase of pineapple production in the states of Pará and Tocantins, both located in the North Region of Brazil, in which harvest occurs during a period of low national pineapple supply. The international pineapple market is addressed, both exporting and importing countries and products. The trend of fresh pineapple consumption in the most important markets, the consumption seasonality in the European Union and the most important traders are mentioned, in addition to the most commercialized cultivars and the Brazilian insertion into that market.
