Tylenchorhynchus dubius (Butschli, 1873) Filipjev, 1936 is probably the most abundant phytophagous nematode in lighter soils in the temperat zones of Europe. Its wide spread and the high density of its populations in arable land and meadows is probably related to the polyphagy of the species and to the widespread occurence of cereals, grasses and other suitable hosts. The nematode has occasionally been recorded as a noxious plant parasite form countries in temperatur as well as subtropical zones. It is, however, possible that not all records concern the same species. The T. dubius used in this study was derived from a natural population occurring in a field at Wageningen which was identical wiht the population form which ALLEN selected his neotype in 1955. Little has been reported on the biology, population dynamucs and host-parasite relationships of T. dubius. This fact, and the widespread occurence of dense populations, were the reasons to nematode as the subject of our study. |
