A group of Brazilian research institutes composed mainly by INPE (National Institute for Space Research), TECGRAF/PUC-RIO (Computer Graphics Group at the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro) and PRODABEL (Information Technology Company for the City of Belo Horizonte) decided to developan open source library, named TerraLib, whose main purpose is to enable quick development of custom-built GIS applications using spatial databases. In a general way, the Terralib aim is to enable the development of a new generation of GIS applications, based on the technological advances on spatial databases [2, 14]. |
