The "long juvenile" trait confers delayed flowering under the warm, short day photothermal regimes usually found in the tropics. This paper reports the action of the long juvenile trait in diverse genotypes grown in tropical and subtropical climates, different seasons, diverse Thai and Australia locations, and in controlled environmental conditions. The long juvenile trait delayed flowering by an average of the days under normally inductive conditions (high temperatures and short days) and for longer periods when temperatures were low. The duration of the delayed was more consistent in tropical than in subtropical environments. |
