18 normally cycling ewes, aged 2-3 yr and averaging 23.34 kg live weight, were observed every 6 h for detection of oestrus, and were examined by laparotomy in different stages of metoestrus. Of the 13 ovulations observed, 7 were from right and 6 from left ovaries, and all were single. All ewes laparotomised 18, 36, 42 and 48 h after the onset of oestrus had ovulated. Of 5 ewes laparotomised at 24 h and 5 at 30 h, 2 and 3 resp. had ovulated. No particular trend of variation in the measurement with left or rigth ovary could be ascertained as the observations for this purpose was small. |
