Performance of corn and broccoli in succession of green manures. |

The work had as objectives to quatify the biological fixation of nitrogen (FBN), the rate of decomposition of the residues and liberation of N of sole and intercropping systems of the green manures sunnhemp (Crotalária juncea) and millet (Pennisetum glaucum), as well as the effects of the green manures on the transfer of N and corn yield and brócolos. He settled, in a CAMBISSOLO HÍSTICO distrófico of the vegetable garden of Research of the Department of Fitotecnia of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Viçosa, MG, theree field experiment. The first experiments, established in septmber, 2001, followed of the desing in blocks to the maybe, with four repetitions, in that the treatments consisted of the green manures sunnhemp, millet, sunnhemp + millet and spontaneous vegetation. In december, 2001, the second experiment was installed, that consisted of the plantation of the corn. The third experiment contemplated the plantation of the broccoli in June, 2002. The second and third experiments consisted of the desing in blocks to the maybe, in subdivided portions, with four repetitions. The second experiments of the portion were the treatments of the firts experiment, and the subplots they consisted of the absence or presence of N-fertilizer, in the dose of 90 Kg há -1 for the corn and 150 Kg N há-1 for the brocoli. The sunnhemp as sole, itr produced high amount of dry matter (9,34Mg há-1) in short interval of time (68 days), being 31% larger than the millet and 16% high tio the untercrop sunnhemp + millet. The dry matter of the intercrop sunnhemp + millet presented the double of the text of N, when compared the one of the sole millet, not differing of the sunnhemp and of the spontaneous vegetation. As a consequence of the high dry matter production and larger text of N, the sunnhemp resulted larger accumulation of that nutritious when sole, and it bent the stock when being intercropped with millet, comparatively to the grass. Of the total of accumulated N for the sunnhemp (305 Kg há-1), 57% were derived of FNB, being the remaining coming of the soil. Already when intercropped to the millet, the leguminous accumulated 144 Kg N há-1, being 61% coming of FBN. Being like this, this leguminous was capable to incorporate to the soil, though FBN, about 173 and 89 Kg há-1 when sole and intercropped, respectively. However, the high rate of mineralization of N of the sole sunnehmp, liberating 152 Kg ha-1 in just 15 days after the court of the plants, have probably been preponderant in the drop rate of use of that nutritious one for the corn. The culture took advantage of about 15% of coming N of FNB for the sunnhemp. Although the intercropping sunnhemp + millet has accumulated smaller amount of N that the sunnhemp (218 against 305 Kg há-1). Its rate of mineralization of N was more graduaqte, liberating 50% in 22 days. In that way, the disponibilization of that nutritious one in the intercrop was more synchronized with the period of larger demand by the corn. This behavior was responsible, at least partially, for the largest revenue of corn grains after the consortium, releasing the application of N-fertilizer in the culture. The leaves and flower of the brocoli presented larger text and accumulation of N due to the residual affect of the sunnhemp. However, this effect didn't translate himself in larger brocoli yield, visa not to have answers of the green fertilizers on the production and fresh and dry weight of the flower, after the corn cultivation. In that way, the long term of the green fertilizers effecst were suppressed by the immediate exploration of the corn however, the brocoli cultivated in sequence to the 6 months after the handling of the green fertilizers, was capble to take advantage of about 9% of coming N of FNB for the sunnhemp.
