Abstract : After weaning at 80 days, 4 groups of 7 Muzaffarnagari [sic] ram lambs were given diets with metabolizable energy 1.8, 2.0, 2.1 or 2.3 Mcal/kg, by increasing the dietary concentrates from about 0 to 25, 50 and 75%, respectively. Lambs in the first group also were given 200 g molasses daily after 15 kg bodyweight. Four lambs from each group were used in metabolism trials in which excreta were collected for 7 days at 15, 25 and 30 to 35 kg liveweight. Energy retention, nitrogen retention and details of plane of nutrition are tabulated; intake of gross energy and retention of N were significantly lower with 75% concentrates at 15 kg liveweight, but by 30 to 35 kg the N retention was greatest in this group. Retention of N increased linearly with increased dietary energy at 15 and 20 kg but not at 35 kg liveweight |
