Since that book was published, intensive research has filled important gaps in our knowledge and altered some of our basic views on how woody plants grow. We therefore considered it important to publish a second edition, updating what is known about the physiology of woody plants. This volume was written for use as a text by students and as a reference for researchers and growers who need to understand woody plant physiology. The subject matter is interdisciplinary in scope and should be useful to a broad range of scientists, including agroforesters, agronomists, arborists, biotechnologists, botanists, entomologists, foresters, horticulturists, plant breeders, plant ecologists, plant geneticists, landscape architects, plant pathologists, plant physiologists, and soil scientists. It should also be of interest to those who grow and manage woody plants for the production of food and fiber. The first chapter emphasizes the importance of physiological processes through which heredity and environrnent interact to influence plant growth. The second chapter presents an overview of both the forro and the structure of woody plants. Attention is given to crown forro, stem forro, and anatomy of leaves, stems, roots, and reproductive structures of angiosperms and gyrnnosperms. The third chapter describes pattems of ve... Mostrar Tudo
