Although there are variations of the land usage in the subtropical zone of Brazil, it has been occupied for relatively long period by the continuous cultivation of the field crops or extensive cattle grazing. These regions have been in a important position for the production of food and fiber. These continuous utilization of arable land and grazing pasture land are becoming environmentally vulnerable. Furthermore, since the application of improved agricultural technologies is limited, their land productivity is still low. Unfortunately, there is no economic evaluation for this phenomenon. The present study is to evaluate the effort of the technical improvements to remove the constraints. The impacts are evaluated through the market-value evaluation, using the scheme of the supply and demand for food. The objective of this study is to optimize the economic surplus as the result of the sun of the producer and consumer surpluses, using the spatial sector programming model. The basic model is the Grain model that includes five crops, rice, edible beans, soybean, corn and wheat. In addition to this basic model, the beef cattle sector model is added. Then, the solution of the agropastoral productionsystem model was compared with the basic one. For the first part of the work, data about production, tranportation, storage, processing for market and consumption. The second part constituted the analyses of the systematized information with the formal model. The simulations have been performed on the impacts of technologies in the context of the agricultural sector and in the context of the interregional and regional competition. Afterward, the consumer surplus were calculated for the whole food chain that included in addition to the production, transportation, storage, processing and other activities as well as consumption. The present study presented that the model developed was capable to evaluate the consequences of policies which influence on the agricultural sector. The potential impact of technological changes was evidenced. Technological progress within the agricultural sector, such as na introduction of agropastoral system, raises consumers welfare more than producers and, sometimes, at the account of producers.
