An additional Technical Assistant was appointed at Bodles to assist primarily with the diploide and triploide programmes, as well as experiments on pollination and germination techniques. The Plant Breeder was on vacation leave in the United Kingdom and visited various research institutions. Extension of the ripening rooms at Bodles has been completed and necessary repairs dons to other buildings at Bodles and Rhymesbury. Notable visitors during the year included Dr. Moulton O. Thomas attached to United Fruit Company breeding research unit at La Lima; he spent more than a week. Other were Drs. Phelps and Green of United Fruit Company; Mr. N. W. Simmonds and Mr. D. A. Perryman, members of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Banana Breeding Research. |
