In Brazil, most of the agricultural products are lost during storage. The objective of this research was to establish the necessary conditions to prolong the postharvest life of guavas during storage at environmental temperature in plastic trays. The guavas, of the variety "Kumagai", were picked manually on 01/06/95, at the point of physiological maturity. 92 uniform fruits were selected, and for each treatment 5 were maintained for daily accompaniment (group controls) and 18 reserved for destructive analyses, carried out every 4 days (destructive group). Four treatments were applied to the fruits: control, carnauba waax Sta-fresh diluted in water in the proportion (1:1), starch film (1% p/v), starch film (2% p/v). The use of the carnauba wax Stafresh in the concentration 1:1 reduced the weight loss and prolonged the postharvest life of guavas, decreasing decay. |
