Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar o estado das artes da negociação sobre bens ambientais na Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC). Adicionalmente, evidencia a relação entre essa negociação e o futuro dos biocombustíveis, com particular atenção para o etanol e seu potencial para assumir importância em escala global. O parágrafo 31 (iii) da declaração de Doha outorgou o mandato negociador para a liberalização e/ou redução de barreiras tarifárias e não tarifárias dos Bens e Serviços Ambientais (BSA). Os países-membro da OMC propuseram, até o momento, três abordagens para atender ao mandato negociador: projeto ambiental, integrado e lista. Já foram propostas 480 linhas tarifárias do Sistema Harmonizado (SH) e diversas categorias de bens ambientais. A categoria de Usinas e Energias Renováveis desperta interesse especial para o Brasil, devido à possibilidade de alavancagem do comércio internacional de biocombustíveis. Contudo, dependendo da lista a ser adotada pelos países para os BSAs, é grande a variação do saldo comercial brasileiro, oscilando desde um possível superávit de US$ 827 milhões até um déficit comercial de US$ 777 milhões, a valores de 2006. Os biocombustíveis devem necessariamente passar pela regulamentação no âmbito da OMC para alcançar um patamar de commodity energética com abrangência mundial. |

Brazil nut is distributed in Amazon and represents an important source of selenium, which plays an important role in the human diet. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, EMBRAPA, through the project "Brazil Nut Mapping and Environmental, Social and Economic Characterization of Production Systems in Amazon - MapCast" has been conducting studies in six Amazon States, aiming to increase knowledge about this species. Among the various research lines from the project, studies on selenium in the soil have been developed with a wide sampling spatial range. The results of this study are an important source of information that will subsidize studies on the relationship of Se with fruit production, as well as the association of this element in the soil with selenium content in nuts, contributing to identify areas with higher selenium levels and for food safety of nut human consumers. |
