It was in Crete, in May 1984, that a greenhouse was first coverd with strips of bubble sheeting (1). Since February 1985, another trial greenhouse has been coverd with bubble sheeting on the site of the trial station for fruit farming and horticulture in Stuttgart-Hohenheim (2). The positive experiences so far, during the running of the trial greenhouses, were a major factor in the fast spread of applications in the field. To date, more than 250 greenhouses in West Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria, with a total area of approximately 10 ha (hectare) have been coverd with this new of type of roofing. The following companies currently offer greenhouses with bubble sheet covering: Krass (WeiBenhorn), Maier-Bihlmaier (Urbach), Hontsch (Essen), Thermo-System(Grunbach), croonenbroeck (Geldern) and Steverding (Borken-Burlo). |
