Abstract : Twelve adult, dry, non-pregnant Beetal goats weighing between 28 and 43 kg were divided into 4 groups and given either 100 or 130% of estimated requirements of total digestible nutrients or digestible crude protein in a 4 X 4 factorial experiment. The feeds used were lucerne hay, gram husk and minerals, given for 7 days of adjustment, 28 days of preliminary feeding and 7 days of a metabolic trial. Daily intakes of DM ranged from 42.6 g on high protein + medium energy to 62.8 g on high protein + high energy rations. Increased energy in the diet reduced the digestibility of protein and increased that of fibre; increased protein increased the digestibility of ether extract. Digestibilities of DM, nitrogen-free extract and gross energy were not affected. |
