An unprecedented view of inundation patterns in large wetlands is available from the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR; Nimbus-7 satellite). In this talk, we present SMMR data for the Pantanal, one of the world's largest wetlands. The hydrology of this vast and remote region is poorly understood. SMMR data reveal the complexity of spatial and temporal patterns of inundation in the region, and are useful for examining interannual variability. |
